Jakarta is now witnessing the death of one of its old districts. In many famous parts of the world, the only left solution to this inevitable condition is to revive the deserted places in favor of tourism. Asemka, the symbol of national trade glory of the past will not see such shifts any time soon. Even in some areas, the situation looked grave as shophouses closed from one end of the street to the other. The new generation starts to lose the reason to visit this place. On the white sand beach of Sepa Island, among the vast archipelago of the Thousand Islands, a Spaniard leaned against the breeze while sharing the beauty of the islands formation far ahead with a person next to him. He muttered in awe that he had never seen anything like this in his long journey as an avid traveler. It is not a rocket science to envisage how high the district development will have leveraged the wealth of the islands and their scattered local inhabitants, if and when it happened. Perayaan Ceng Beng atau ziarah ke kuburan leluhur oleh warga Tionghua biasanya dilaksanakan setiap tanggal 4 April dan merupakan sebuah perayaan penting dalam kebudayaan Tiongkok yang memegang teguh penghormatan terhadap leluhur. Tetapi menurut kebiasaan orang Tionghoa di Kalimantan Barat, Ceng Beng biasanya dilaksanakan dua minggu sebelum tanggal 4 April. Kali ini saya mengikuti Ceng Beng di kota kelahiran ibu saya , Sambas.
